November
1, 2007-
Voters
in Stuart next Tuesday will be asked to authorize the city to issue
bonds for the purpose of making a $1.7 million grant to the Project
Restore Foundation to construct, equip and furnish a non-denominational
Community Center /
Cultural
Center
at the site of the former All Saints Catholic Church.
The project, estimated at $2.5 million,
recently received a $545,000 grant from The Vision Iowa Board which is
contingent upon passage of the bond issue. The rare Byzantine-style
church was heavily damaged by an arsonist's hand in 1995.
A 60 percent majority is required to
approve the special measure.
Also at Stuart, voter input is
sought on whether terms of library board members should be reduced to
three years and if the board's make up should include three city
residents and two rural residents.
Menlo also has a special public
measure that questions if the seven person board of trustees of the
library should be decreased to five members.
Around the county, nearly 30
positions for mayors and city council representatives are on the ballots
for the November 6 municipal elections.
