Voters
in Stuart approved a bond issue Tuesday to rebuild the All Saints
Church.
The
landmark church was set fire 12 years ago. Voters approved the $1.7
million plan to turn the building into a community and cultural center.
Vote
totals show 226 people or 63 percent supported the bond issue and 133
people or 37 percent opposed it.
Donations
will help pay for the rest of the $2.5 million project.
An
arsonist set the church on fire in 1995, destroying the interior of
the structure. Church officials decided not to rebuild it due to
cost.
Supporters
want to restore the church to attract tourism and serve the community.
Construction
could begin as early as next spring.
